Tracking Code

One of the frustrating things about promoting Clickbank products is that you don't have control of the "Thank You" page.

Sure, they have their own tracking you can use with the TID (you can read about that on the Clickbank site). And they give excellent reporting of hops and sales.

But if you are trying to use a multi-variate testing tool like TestiVar or even a split testing tool, you usually want to put something on the page the visitor sees once they have made the purchase.

This gives feedback to the multi-variate or split testing tool so that it can match up the sale with all of the information about what was shown to that particular visitor that resulted in that sale.

TestiVar allows you to use something they call "pre-sales factor" when you don't have control of the "thank you" post-purchase page, but that can only show the interest level the person has in the topic.

There is a correlation between "pre-sales factor" and sales and we think that is useful data to use for optimization until you have actual sales data. But there is no substitute for optimizing using actual sales data.

Another tool we used early on captured the email address during the opt-in process and stored it along with the version of the pre-sales letter that was displayed (an article, opt-in page, review page, blog post, etc) and then later matched up email addresses with an upload of your sales data that you first downloaded from Clickbank.

This was a pain and still only a few sales ever matched up. That is because most people now use one email address to sign up for freebies and lists and another email address for actual purchases and more important things. Still, that was better than using only "pre-sales factor" from TestiVar which guessed about how close they were to purchasing based on their mouse movements and keypresses.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Clickbank vendor would allow you to put your tracking code on their thank you page? That would allow you to use any kind of tracking, multi-variate testing or split testing software out there.

Of course. We do just that. Why? Because we like to be better than any other affiliate program. It's part of our mission here.

We also have the technology to do it when a lot of other vendors don't.

Sure; they could have a form asking for your code and they could be willing to put it on their thank you page along with the code for hundreds of other affiliates.

But as soon as they consider that thought, they freeze when they consider the implications. Here are some of the problems they could face if they did that:

1) You could give them an iframe pointing to a php code fragment on your site for tracking. Later, you could change that code to break the frames and redirect every new customer for that vendor to your own site to capture their email address or give them a "one time offer" or whatever. The customer wouldn't even know they had been hijacked and the person controlling the code could hijack every single new customer from that vendor.

2) The "thank you" page is loaded for every new sale, not just your new sales. If your tracking code was there, you would not only be able to track your own sales as an affiliate more efficiently... you would also have access to ALL of the sales information for the vendor.

3) To build on #2, you could also grab every new customer's name, email address, Clickbank ID of the affiliate reffering the sale and receipt number. How would you like access to all of that information for a Clickbank vendor who sells a lot of products?

The dangers go on. But all of the dangers have to do with the fact that the same "thank you" page is displayed for every affiliate.

Our technology makes it so we can put your custom code on our "thank you" page and it is only run for YOUR sales. All of the above problems are solved. If you want to hijack your own referrals and risk a refund, that's up to you. If you want to capture their name and email address with an automated script so you don't have to manually download that information from Clickbank or extract it from the notification emails you receive, that's just fine. You referred the visitor. Your tracking code will run on the thank you page only for the sales you referred.

That is why we can offer this service. Because we are more dedicated to our affiliates... and because we have the technology to do it safely.

Tracking code is different for every kind of software and service you might be using. It usually comes in two parts though. There is tracking code that you are supposed to put on any page where you want to track or optimize some particular action (like clicks, subscribes or sales). And the other part goes on a page that the visitor can only reach if that action took place.

Put the first code on your page. Use the form below to send us the second part of the code that is meant to track sales. We'll set it up so that your code is on the "thank you" page that visitors see when they buy our product... if you referred them through your Clickbank affiliate ID.
